1. What is LBRD?
Long Beach Roller Derby (LBRD) is a competitive flat-track and banked-track league with one all-star travel team (GALS) and four home teams: 4th Street Retro Rollers, Terminal Island Tootsies, Bixby Rollerettes, and the new Belmont Shore Hot Broads. The home teams are led by Estro Jen, Diesel, Biodiesel, and Pigeon along with co-coach Dangerous, respectively.
2. When and where are the practices for fresh meat?
Sundays and Wednesdays from 6:30PM to 8PM in the Roller Dome next to the Queen Mary: 1126 Queensway, Long Beach, CA 90802
3. What do I wear to practice?
Wear any comfortable clothes that you can maneuver in
-Pads (knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards) and helmets are mandatory
-Mouthguards are required for skrimmages
4. What forms do I need to fill out in order to skate?
There are 2 forms: The Welcome Packet and the USARS insurance form
-The mandatory USARS insurance is $45, and that covers the entire season
-Please also bring a photocopy of your driver’s license and health insurance card
5. How much are the monthly dues?
Monthly dues are $20, but the FIRST month is $40 because it includes four mandatory Tuesday Workouts
-Cash or checks (can be made to Long Beach Roller Derby)
-You can turn them in to Psyko Kupkake, preferably by the 12th of every month.
We’ll keep a list of names, so please make sure we check you off.
6. What are the Tuesday Workouts?
From 6-7:30PM in the Roller Dome, we have a Pilates warm-up and workout specifically designed for roller derby playing—all off-skates, so bring tennis shoes and a mat or towel, if you wish
The first four Tuesdays you attend are covered by your first month’s dues. After those MANDATORY four Tuesdays, it is $5 for every following Tuesday
7. Is there parking at the Roller Dome? How much is parking?
There is parking for $8 when you enter at the farthest right lane; otherwise, it’s $12
FREE public transportation is available from Downtown Long Beach. Take the Passport C (red bus) heading towards the Queen Mary.
8. Is there carpool?
There are a few carpool groups that usually meet at the parking lot on 4th and Cherry around 6-6:15PM before Sunday and Wednesday practices
Feel free to ask other fresh meat ladies to set up/join a carpool or check the “LBRD FRESH MEAT” Group on Facebook
9. Where can I find LBRD updates and information?
There is an active LBRD Yahoo Group Message Board. If you’re not already part of the yahoo group, please ask one of the coaches to be added. This is the main mode of communication outside of practice.

11. What are Skills Assessments? How often do they occur?
These are assessments of basic skating skills used to determine whether you can safely skate with the other derby girls in the sub-pool and on teams
-Occurs about once a month and will be announced beforehand
-To see a list of the skills being assessed, check out the yahoo group files
12. Are there additional chances to practice skating?
Estro Jen offers free beginner’s skate lessons for her skate shop at the Moxi beach shack located at 700 Shoreline Village along the strand on Saturday mornings 10:30-11:30AM.
The lessons are free, but if you do not own your own skates, then you can rent them for $10.
Some of the derby gals frequent the Fountain Valley Skating Center ($7.50 entry+ $3 to rent skates) outside of practice.
Some also like to post onto our “LBRD Fresh Meat” group on facebook when and where they will be skating outside of practices to skate with other interested gals
13. Who do I contact about volunteering for upcoming bouts?

14. Who do I turn in all the forms to?
The Welcome packet (name, waiver, etc.) along with a copy of you license and insurance card can go to Short Smack
USARS insurance can be mailed in-just let Short Smack know that you already mailed it when you turn in your welcome packet
Once you have your USARS registration number, submit that to Anita Nother at anitanother@longbeachrollerderby.com
15. How old do I have to be in order to be part of the league?
-To be part of the adult league, you must be 18 years of age or older
-There is a junior derby league for girls ages 3-17.
